Custom Build: Willendorf Horn

Experiencing the magnitude of our client’s extra large 1,200 sq.ft. gallery-style living room with its soaring 25 ft. high vaulted ceilings served up as inspiration for this custom speaker build. Industrial surfaces such as Roseberg-stamped RigidLam construction beams prevail throughout the space in the form of door thresholds, exposed joists, and a 16 ft. wide fireplace cabinet (located directly behind the camera here).

WILLENDORF HORN

Appealing to the client’s desire for concert level volume in their home, we decided to go with the effortlessly open, live classic sound of JBL pro compression horn tweeters and 12” woofers. The extreme structurally stiff and subsequently neutral cabinet is made from the same matching Roseberg RigidLam found throughout the room and house. Rounded sides, beveled woofer holes and the large built-in horn expose dozens of glue laminate layers for a wonderful visual texture.

The large speaker cabinets are supported by custom welded stands made from steel plate and T-bar stock, then powdercoated in a low luster black finish.

For sound quality, ease of use, streaming versatility, and TV connectivity to their 82” beast of a display, we recommended the Willendorfs be paired with the wonderful NAD C700 BluOS Streaming Amplifier.

And finally with its high efficiency speaker configuration, beam-forming horns designed to minimize room reflections, and cool industrial looks, our happy couple will be enjoying their audio-enhanced room for years to come.

19”W x 28”H + 24” Stand x 14”D

The cabinet, constructed with 135 glued wood laminations, provides both excellent rigidity & acoustic neutrality
