Regency Arch & Georgian Lancet Mantel Speakers

Regency Arch and Georgian Lancet

A few weeks ago, my son and I roadtripped from Colorado to Santa Fe, Marfa, Austin, New Orleans, and lastly to our final destination at the Savannah College of Art and Design where Max has just started the next stage of his life as a college freshman. And while he’s a cool character on the surface, I know he’s super psyched to explore all the amazing world-class art & design courses SCAD has to offer. Max is also an accomplished distance athlete, and will be competing on the cross country & track teams “Sko Bees!”

Max got started training with the team as soon as we got there, which gave me a chance to explore downtown. I saw many of the gorgeous historical homes located on picturesque cobblestone & brick streets. Cafes, eateries, antique & home furnishing shops like the wonderfully curated Jones & Bull are interwoven throughout the city flawlessly. From a home design perspective, Savannah is steeped in history and rarely, if ever interrupted with the abrasive modernity of disposable, thoughtless design. Savannah feels timeless & steadfast, yet somehow is still open and willing to embrace contemporary fashion & style. In a few blunt words, “Savannah is simply amazing!,” and I am hard-pressed to think of another city in America with more authentic character.

With incredible excitement for Max, and a proud father’s tear in my eye (several if I’m being honest), I flew home to Colorado inspired by Savannah style. I thought about some of the vintage mantel clocks I saw in the wonderful antique stores. These lovely arch & lancet top clocks were built from the Georgian to the Edwardian eras of the 19th and early 20th century. They were finely crafted in Paris, London & Glasgow using red mahogany for their cabinet enclosures, with sleek brass hardware & white ceramic clock faces.

I imagined modern interpretations of these timeless classics. They will be small-ish Heinsenfolg speakers approximately 7.5”W x 7.5”D x 13”H and made from an African Red Mahogany or similar solid hardwoods. A natural brass “clock” face ring and brass feet would gently & gorgeously patina over time. A single best-in-class European-designed speaker driver with a ceramic-like white finish mimics the “clock” face, while delivering amazing high fidelity sound quality when playing jazz, classical, country, vocal performances, etc. from its built-in 100 watt amplifier, played through a simple plug & play built-in Bluetooth module.

Like Savannah’s wonderful mélange of old meets new, the Regency Arch & Georgian Lancet high fidelity designs are rooted in the past, yet thoughtfully modern in the best way possible.
