SubLime Frozen Strawberry Margarita

We had a couple of our favorite friends over to the house the other day—one of them a passionate mixologist. Her creativity & fearlessness in the bar always pushes me to be better. I often like trying something new when we get together and it occurred to me that I have never made frozen strawberry margaritas before. Excluding the fabulous Colorado favorite Rio Grande margs, many strawberry margaritas are either cloy to a fault, overly acidic, or just mixed with so many “fake” ingredients that the flavor tastes more like a strawberry Jolly Rancher® then the fantastic summer fruit refresher that it promises to be.

So I decided to use my SubLime Citrus Margarita recipe (with a couple of adjustments) as a base, pull out the blender, and whip up something truly special.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 Cup (6 oz.) Hornitos® Reposado Tequila

  • 1/4 Cup (2 oz.) Cointreau orange liqueur

  • 1/4 Cup (2 oz.) Lime juice (approx. 2 fresh squeezed limes)

  • 1/4 Cup (1 oz.) Orange juice (approx. 1 fresh squeezed orange)

  • 1/4 Cup Lemon Juice

  • 1-1/2 Cup Fresh Strawberries

  • 1 Tbsp Cane Sugar

  • 3 Cups Cocktail Ice (Reddy Ice® is my favorite)

Instructions

Throw all the ingredients into your blender on a medium setting making sure to crush the ice smooth. If you like more or less “ice slushiness” in your margs, simply up the amount of ice.

With over a full cup of blended fresh fruits, this frozen strawberry margarita has a perfect balance of tart & sweet… and possibly the healthiest cocktail you’ll have all year!

Recipe makes 2 large drinks poured into our 15 oz. Zombie glasses.
